Belkys is a certified Level 1 US Squash Coach and Referee. She was the assistant coach for the Tufts University squash teams during the 2009-10 season, but has been promoted to Head Coach of the Jumbo women's squash team.

A native of Ecuador, Velez plays on the Women's International Squash Players Association tour. She held a highest world ranking of #84 and is one of the top players from her country. She won a bronze medal at the 2003 South American Games, and also earned a bronze for mixed doubles at the South America and Caribbean Games in 2010.

Her coaching experience in Ecuador spans six years, and in the United States she has held positions at Northeastern University, Newton Country Day School, and as a Squash Pro at the Maugus Club in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Belkys also plays for the 4.5 Maugus Men's team in the MA Leagues and represents the Women "A" team for Boston every year at Howe Cup. She joined Szilvi at Cross Fit New England to keep in shape.
